Norwegian Massage Association
for professional massage therapists
The Norwegian Massage Association is Norway’s largest organization for masseurs and massage therapists.
We have been publicly approved as a practitioner association by the Norwegian Directorate of Health since 2013.
Trust before the first treatment
Customers who already know you know what you stand for. For new customers, the choice is more difficult. They know neither you, your background, nor the quality of the treatment you offer.
Membership in the Norwegian Massage Association gives them something concrete to rely on. It shows that your education has been documented and assessed in accordance with the association’s professional requirements.
That may be the reassurance the customer needs to book their first appointment.
A quality mark you can use
As a paying member, you may freely use the name and logo of the Norwegian Massage Association in marketing your business.
The logo may be used on websites, on social media, in advertisements, and in printed materials — and anywhere else you present yourself to new customers. You also receive a membership certificate that you can display in your clinic.
This makes your membership visible at the exact moment a customer is considering booking an appointment.
More than a logo
Behind the logo is a real assessment. Before we approve a member, we review their educational documentation and assess it against our membership requirements.
Membership can also be verified in the public member list on our website.
The customer therefore does not have to rely only on what the therapist writes about themselves. The approval can be confirmed.
Make it easier to choose you
Good treatment creates satisfied customers who come back. But first, they have to choose to book.
When a new customer compares several therapists, membership can give you an important advantage. It shows that an established professional organization has reviewed your background and approved you for membership.
The Norwegian Massage Association helps you build trust before the first treatment.
Facts about the approval of massage therapists in Norway
The title “massage therapist” is not a protected professional title in Norway. There is no public authorization scheme, and no specific education requirements apply in order to offer massage. In practice, anyone can therefore call themselves a massage therapist and attract paying customers, as long as the business operates within Norwegian law.
For the customer, it can be difficult to know whether a therapist has extensive professional training, a few short courses, or no relevant education at all.
For massage therapists, membership in an approved practitioners’ organization is the only established approval scheme in Norway. This is how the therapist can document that their education has been assessed against professional requirements — and how customers can distinguish an approved therapist from a provider without documented qualifications.
The Norwegian Massage Association is approved by the Norwegian Directorate of Health as a practitioner organization, and all our members have approved education. Customers feel safe choosing one of our members as their massage therapist.
